Bonnie mare Obsidian Dragon brought her excellent Adelaide form to Melbourne on December 31, the fast and classy four-year-old claiming the very last race of 2011.
Always in control of the Moonee Valley 1000m Mares Handicap, the David Balfour trained four-year-old was not slowed down by the impost of topweight as she raced away to a convincing 2.8 length victory.
"That was an absolutely brilliant win!" enthused proud part owner Jeff Collins.
"To carry 59.5kg with most of the other runners on the 54 minimum and do what she did was amazing."
"She has now won eight metro races and given that it is hard enough to win one, it is a great effort."
Amassing over $347,000 in prizemoney with her eight victories from 21 starts, Obsidian Dragon has four black type placings to her credit and connections are keen to secure a stakes win.
"There are two Listed 1000m races coming up at Flemington and Caulfield," Collins said, "so maybe the time is right to get that black type win – she deserves one."
