It was a proud occasion for Lyndhurst Stud at the Gold Coast on Saturday, the feature event – the $100,000 Bat Out Of Hell Handicap – providing an all Lyndhurst finish.
Taking out the coveted event in brilliant fashion, Carry The Flag's daughter Carry To Fortune proved too speedy for the Sequalo pair Seek And Find and Reilly Blue.
And Sequalo also made his mark with the winner, being the sire of Carry To Fortune's dam Sequalo Fair.
Trained by Sandra O'Sullivan who has just three horses in work, Carry To Fortune was bred and is raced by long time Lyndhurst supporter Bruce Bremner who also bred and raced Sequalo Fair.
A winner at Doomben at two, Sequalo Fair was served by Drumbeats last spring. She is a half sister to Carry The Flag's Gr.1 placed Carry To Glory and the dual city winner Hayil's Magic from the family of the stakes winners Casanora, Hello Pretty, Red Flair, Perfect Bliss, Perfect Rapture and Danecay.
A six times winner from 23 starts with over $160,000 in stakes to her credit, Carry To Fortune won the Bat Out Of Hell at her first outing since the spring. A mare who just doesn't know how to run a bad race, she was always travelling well for Glen Colless – drawing clear in the straight to salute by an impressive 1¾ lengths.
"That's easily the biggest win I've ever had," said a delighted O'Sullivan.
"She's such a brilliant mare when she's fresh and that was no surprise at all. She never looked like getting beaten and I'm absolutely thrilled."
